Ovechkin Breaks Nose & Scores 4 Goals in Win

Posted on January 31st, 2008 in Washington Capitals by Wicked

Ovechkin scores 4 goalsOvehckin broke his nose and scored 4 goals and added an assist in a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadians.  Ovechkin is a stud … what else can you say.  He is the most dynamic scorer in the NHL since Pavel Bure in my opinion.

He is the leader of a mediocre team and when he plays, he makes them a respectable team.  Kozlov said, “The way Ovie scored the goals today, he’s pretty amazing,” linemate Kozlov said. “Alex’s game is excellent, excellent. Hitting people, passing, scoring. I don’t know what else forwards could do.”

Nik Antropov Throws his Stick at Referee - Suspended

Posted on January 31st, 2008 in Toronto Maple Leafs by Wicked

Nik Antropov earned 2 game misconduct penalties which carries a minimum of a 3 game suspension. People at the game say that after the Hurricanes scored the game-winning goal in overtime, Antropov threw his stick at the referee.

The Maple Leafs lost 3-2 to the Hurricanes, and now they have lost one of their better players for at least 3 games. Regardless of the situation or the emotion involved, this is a pretty classless move on Antropov’s part. Antropov was called for hooking in overtime which led to the game-winning goal by the Hurricanes.  Stay tuned for video on the incident.

Peter Forsberg told his former team, Modo, in Sweden that he will not be playing for them this season. Instead Forsberg has his eye on returning to the NHL.

Forsberg’s NHL return means that his agent can now talk to NHL teams about a potential contract for the rest of the season. The Forsberg NHL comeback sweepstakes will only involve teams with a legitimate chance at taking a run at the Stanley Cup.
The Peter Forsberg NHL return sweepstakes is rumored to involve, Calgary, Vancouver, Philadelphia, New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings.

Forsberg must return to the NHL and be signed by an NHL team before the Trade Deadline on February 26, 2008.

There are rumors circulating in Canada that Dion Phaneuf may be very close to signing a long-term deal with the Calgary Flames.  Phaneuf is a stud of a defenseman and will be for many years to come.  The Calgary Flames have a chance to lock up a potential Norris Trophy winner for many years to come.  Everyone in Calgary is holding their breath, waiting for the news that they will be able to see Phaneuf in a Flame’s jersey for many years to come.

Forsberg’s NHL Return with Rangers or Flyers

Posted on January 30th, 2008 in NHL trade rumors by Wicked

New sources are reporting that the three most likely teams that Peter Forsberg would play for when Forsberg returns to the NHL are the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers or Detroit Red Wings. I personally would count the Red Wings out because they were a former rival and I think that Forsberg probably hates the Red Wings after playing with the Avalanche and being on the team during the Claude Lemieux/Kris Draper incident.

So Forsberg’s return to the NHL is then left to the Rangers or the Flyers. Both are big market East Coast teams and both have a shot at the playoffs, although the Flyers have the better shot. But does Forsberg see the right mix on the Rangers. They have great veteran leadership of players who have won Stanley Cups. Scott Gomez, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Drury, and Jaromir Jagr. But he has played for the Flyers so he knows what he is getting himself into. Who will the Peter Forsberg returns to the NHL sweepstakes?
